Connect a Mixpanel project to Modus so your event and user schema becomes context that Modus can reason over. Modus reads your project’s event and profile schema (Lexicon) — read-only — and stores your credentials encrypted in AWS Secrets Manager.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:
  • A Mixpanel project and its Project ID.
  • Its data residency region — United States (US) or European Union (EU).
  • A service account with read access to the project (see below).

Set up a service account

Modus authenticates with a Mixpanel service account.
1

Create the service account

In Mixpanel, open Organization Settings → Service Accounts and create a new service account with a role that can read the project (for example, Analyst or Consumer). Grant it access to the project you want to connect.
2

Copy the username and secret

Mixpanel shows the service account username and secret once. Copy both now — you’ll paste them into Modus.
3

Find your Project ID and region

Open Project Settings. Copy the Project ID, and note whether the project is hosted in the US or EU.

Connect in Modus

1

Open the Mixpanel connection form

  1. Log into Modus.
  2. Click Integrations in the left sidebar.
  3. Find the Mixpanel card under Analytics and click Connect.
2

Fill in the connection details

Complete the form using the field reference below. Make sure Data Residency matches your project’s region.
3

  1. Click Test Connection to verify Modus can read your project schema.
  2. Click Save Connection.

Troubleshooting

Verification

Your Mixpanel project is now connected. Modus turns your event and profile schema into context so Modus can answer product-analytics questions accurately. Need help? Contact us at support@getmodus.com.
Modus connects read-only and requests only the minimum access needed to understand your data. All credentials are encrypted and stored in AWS Secrets Manager — your secret is never stored in plaintext.
